Gunners Cruise On, Defeating Standard L. 2-0
ARSENAL cruised into the final 16 of the Champions League to erase memories of Saturday’s defeat at Sunderland.

The Gunners’ title ambitions were dented by Steve Bruce’s men but they were back to their best on another comfortable European night at the Emirates.
Samir Nasri got the ball rolling after 35 minutes with a goal of total simplicity.
Thomas Vermaelen went route one with a long ball and Nasri slammed it home after some hesitation from the Standard Liege defence.
The goal may have taken a while to arrive but it was fully deserved with the hosts bossing the game.
Denilson doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time with a long-range cracker.
The midfielder fired in a 30-yard effort which flew past Sinan Bolat to give Arsenal the perfect cushion going into the break.
Arsene Wenger’s side failed to add to the lead in the second half and the only incident of any real note came three minutes from time when Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez saw red.
He was dismissed for going head to head with Cesc Fabregas, who was booked for his part in the heated confrontation.
